Grocery Shopping Tips

Are you one of those people that doesn't read the labels when choosing food? If so, then you need to read this and find out how you can better understand what you are spending your money on. Here are some very important and vital secrets you need to know before heading out that door to do your shopping.

Products that have hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil in them are absolutely horrible and you should stay away from them! That's the stuff scientists use on mice so that they get heart disease and the scientists can study that disease! The good news is that most companies have eliminated hydrogenated oils from their products, but there are still a lot out there, so be very weary.

Watch out for sugar. Sugar is extremely cheap and over-abundant, so it is added to foods that don't even need it! Foods such as kidney beans, peanut butter and tons of other products have sugar in them when they don't even need it! Because there is such a huge surplus, sugar is just dumped into everything making it not only cheaper for you, the consumer but also cheaper for the producer. So make sure you read the labels and try to avoid sugary products as much as possible.

What's even worse is that manufacturers put more sugar in their products than you could ever imagine. You probably know how ingredients are listed on a label right? They start at the top with the highest percentage of anything and work their way donw. But what if the manufacturer needed to put a whole lot of sugar in there...without really letting the public know?

This is how the sugar gets hidden: They put three types of sugar into the product, so that no one of them is a larger amount than whatever "healthy" ingredient they want to appear at the top of the list. For example, suppose you read on that bottle of juice label, "cranberry juice, corn syrup, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and vitamin C." In fact, what you're getting is a whopping 72% of sugar in one juice bottle. Or should we call it a sugar bottle now?

Same goes for other types of food such as breads. Don't always believe what you read because it's not always true as you can see. Think you're buying whole wheat bread all the time? Think again. Unless it says 100% Whole Wheat on the package, it's not whole wheat, and even then you should still look a little closer. So don't believe everything you read, it's not always true!
